Inflation rate rises again in Yellowknife

Yellowknife, N.W.T. - Yellowknifers paid more for the things they need in January.

The latest consumer price index from the NWT Bureau of Statistics showed a 0.6 per cent increase for goods last month, joining the rest of the country in seeing a rise in the inflation rate.

The big cost increase was in the transportation sector, including private and public, which went up two per cent.

Food and personal care products also went up 1.1 per cent, but not everything went up in price, notably the sin intems.

Alcohol and tobacco dropped 0.7 per cent and was joined by footwear and clothing, which dropped 0.5 per cent.

The country's inflation rate went up 0.2 per cent last month.
